Education is key to success. An old adage that we often hear. Like everyone, we struggle to finish our studies in hopes that a bright future awaits us. This is the very reason why 22 years old, Rahma Miro, strived hard to finish her studies.
Miro is a beneficiary of one of the Bangsamoro Government’s scholarship programs. She took up Bachelor of Secondary Education-Major in English at Cotabato State University (CSU) and was granted a full scholarship program from the Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education’s’ (MBHTE) Access to Higher and Modern Education (AHME). This year, Miro not only completed her Bachelor’s degree but finished with Latin honors as Cum Laude.
She took inspiration from her parents who are both working in the field of Education. Talking about her struggles, she was three when his father died leaving her mother to raise and put the family together by herself.
“Growing up with my mother, who is a single parent, was not easy,” she said. Despite the challenges, her mother always dreamed of a bright future for Rahma and her siblings by Allah SWT’s mercy.
Also, as a Muslim, Miro’s family finds deep connection with their faith. Their jihad (sacrifices) brought them to an active participation in the promotion of the advocacies for the Bangsamoro and other community training for the Mujahideen.
Since the establishment of the BARMM in 2019, various ministries have initiated scholarship programs to provide opportunities for Bangsamoro students and professionals to pursue their education.
Miro is one of the students who received a scholarship through AHME. She admitted that her doubts about being accepted into the program nearly discouraged her from pursuing her studies. However, her prayers were answered, and everything seemed to align in her favor.
“Alhamdulillah, I am truly blessed that Allah SWT always heard my prayers and I am accepted as one of the AHME-SP grantees,” Miro said.
The scholarship grant has been a significant financial aid, as the AHME scholarship program provides P60,000 per academic year, or P30,000 per semester, to each scholar.
“Being a scholar of MBHTE AHME is a great blessing from Allah SWT, and achieving Latin honors as Cum Laude is a tremendous success, not just for me but for my Umi and Abi as well. Alhamdulillah,” Miro emphasized.

Since 2020, the scholarship program has supported the education of 5,400 grantees. This year, over 1,000 scholars graduated as part of the AHME program’s inaugural batch.
The AHME Scholarship prioritizes qualified applicants who are former combatants, children of combatants, orphans, or surviving spouses of former combatants. This program is part of the BARMM government’s post-conflict rehabilitation and development efforts.
“May Allah SWT continue to bless the efforts of people behind the BARMM, especially those dedicated to supporting the government, in bringing peace, progress, and prosperity to the Bangsamoro people,” she added.
The MBHTE advocates for the principle that “no child shall be left behind,” emphasizing inclusive and equitable access to quality education for all Bangsamoro children. (Myrna Tepadan/BIO)
