COTABATO CITY—The Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) parliament opened its second regular session on Monday, May 15, 2023.
Prior to the opening, members of the parliament (MPs) held a special session for a resolution authorizing lawmaker Said Salendab to act as Wali of the Bangsamoro which the members unanimously approved.
At exactly 2:12 pm, acting Wali banged the gong which signified the ceremonial opening of the 2nd regular session.
As he thanked the Almighty for the successful opening of the session, Salendab was emotional in recalling the contribution of the late and first Wali—Sheik Khalipha Nando who joined the Creator early this year.
Among the highlights of the session was the legislative agenda confided by Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim which include fast tracking of priority bills, inclusive development initiatives, support for science and technology innovations, promotion of balance education, and other social services among others.
These also coincided with the legislative measures shared by Speaker Atty. Pangalian Balindong which focused as well on inclusive governance and development initiatives.
Over four years since the regional government was established, Ebrahim describes that four years in transition as “a narrative of hope, peace, transitional justice, and resilience”.
“We are four years into this transitional period. Four years that allowed us to write the significant chapters of our narrative,” Ebrahim said.
“Our work towards an empowered, cohesive, and progressive Bangsamoro is our lifelong commitment to our people and to our beloved homeland,” he added.
During the roll call, seventy members of the parliament affirmed their presence. The regular sessions will resume today, May 16. (Abdullah Matucan/BIO)
