SPECIAL GEOGRAPHIC AREA— Excitement builds among the residents of Pigcawayan Cluster in the Special Geography Area (SGA) as the construction of the much-anticipated Bangsamoro public market enter its final stages.
On Sunday, October 1, Ministry of the Interior and Local Government (MILG) Minister Atty. Naguib Sinarimbo was delighted to share the good news on his personal Facebook account.
“Our public market in the Pigcawayan Cluster, SGA is almost complete,” the post read.
Sinarimbo, who personally attended the groundbreaking event for the said facility last year, also wrote that the regional government hopes the market will provide business opportunities while at the same time allow constituents and other neighboring barangays to have easy access to goods and services.
“Farmers and fisherfolks will be able to market their goods easily,” Sinarimbo said in his post.
“Padian or market has been the engine of growth in our localities. It has also been a venue for people to converge and converse and thus, build social cohesion,” he added.
Among the top priorities of the Bangsamoro Government for 2023-2025 is to boost the economic development in the region by capitalizing on its comparative advantage when it comes to the economic potentials of its natural resources, the halal industry, ecotourism, and others.
As of this writing, Sinarimbo’s post already had over a hundred shares with netizens expressing their astonishment in the comment section. Netizen Ate Annie Adam even said that she would supply fresh & and organic vegetables directly from her farm once the market becomes operational.
The P25-million worth public market features stalls for both wet and dry goods, and a mezzanine. Its windows’ architectural design makes it more appealing while allowing fresh air to pass through its tiny holes.
The inclusion of okir design on the building beam ends is noteworthy. Okir is a pattern carved in wood, brass, silver, and depicted in wall paintings, featuring curvilinear lines and Arabic geometric figures, which also represents the artistic originality of the Maranaos.
According to the Project Management Development Division of MILG, same facility is currently being constructed for each of the eight clusters of SGA. (Abdullah Matucan/BIO)
