COTABATO CITY—The month-long celebration of Bangsamoro History Month (BHM) officially kicked off here on March 1, 2024, commemorating various significant milestones of the Bangsamoro in pursuit of peace and the right to self-determination.
Bangsamoro Government’s Ministry of Public Order and Safety (MPOS) is spearheading the month-long activity which carries the theme, “Commemorating the History for a Stronger, Enduring, and Resilient Bangsamoro”.
In his message during the kick-off ceremony, BARMM Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim emphasized that this month was marked by a series of pivotal historical events that have brought Bangsamoro to where it is today.
“In the ongoing quest for self-determination among the Bangsamoro people, the month of March serves as a poignant reminder of our collective journey,” Ebrahim expressed.
He said it is incumbent upon everyone to pay tribute to those who sacrificed for the Bangsamoro cause and those who helped to achieve autonomy of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
“This month bears witness to events that have not only inspired us to fight for our rights but have also fortified our resilience and resolve in the face of adversity,” he added.
MPOS Minister Hussein Muñoz shared that the Bangsamoro story is one characterized by resilience that fights with difficulties and an unfailing hope of better things ahead.
“We are here not only to remember our struggle and celebrations of the past but also to guarantee that we will build the future on the foundations of peace, unity, and progress,” he said.
During this month, a series of events await which include the following:
- Commemoration of Bud Dajo Massacre on March 5-7, 2024 to be held at Bud Dajo, Indanan, Sulu.
- Bangsamoro Tagisan ng Talino and Talento 2024: March 14, 2024 to be held at Alnor Convention Center, Cotabato City which shall conduct Quiz Bowl Competition, Spoken Poetry Contest, and Photo Essay Contest.
- Commemoration of the 56th Anniversary of Jabidah Massacre and Dansalan Declaration Anniversary: March 18, 2024, to be held at Shariff Kabungsuan Cultural Complex, Cotabato City.
- Commemoration of the Declaration of All-Out War against MILF on March 21, 2024 to be held at Barira, Maguindanao Del Norte.
- BHM 2024 Culmination Program and 10th Year Anniversary of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro and 5th Year Anniversary of the BARMM and BTA Inauguration: March 27, 2024, to be held at Shariff Kabungsuan Cultural Complex, Cotabato City.
The celebration is under Proclamation No. 00001 s. 2021 issued by the Chief Minister on March 8, 2021, declaring the month of March every year as Bangsamoro History Month. (Kasan Usop, Jr./BIO)
