JOLO, Sulu – To enhance the capacity of the local government units (LGU) and their members in formulating investment proposals that are responsive to the needs of their respective communities, the Bangsamoro Government organized a seminar-workshop on October 5 in this province.
The event was organized by the Ministry of Trade, Investments, and Tourism through its Bureau of Investments (MTIT-BOI) in coordination with Sulu Provincial Government and support from The Asia Foundation (TAF). It covered topics on the region’s economic performance, infrastructure development, potential growth sectors, regulatory environment, and investment incentives.
LGU officials and members participated in the seminar-workshop where they learned valuable insights and skills in preparing and presenting investment proposals tailored to address the unique needs of their local communities.
BOI Director II Shamera Abobakar presented the BARMM Investment Situationer, a comprehensive document that provides an overview of the investment climate and opportunities in the region, while TAF Consultant Mohammad Taha II Basman shared his expertise on the development of investment proposals.
In his message read by MTIT-Sulu chief trade-industry development specialist Timhar Tiplahan, Minister Abuamri Taddik highlighted that investment in the region plays a vital role in unlocking opportunities for sustainable growth.
According to Taddik, Sulu’s strategic geographical position connecting Southeast Asia’s robust trade routes, combined with the region’s vast potential in agriculture, fisheries, tourism, and renewable energy, will open doors to welcome international investments.
“By capitalizing on these opportunities, we can forge a path towards inclusive development, creating jobs and empowering the local population,” Taddik noted.
The seminar-workshop held in Sulu is aligned with Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim’s priority agenda on intensifying revenue generation through introduction of initiatives to encourage investments and maximize the revenue potentials of BARMM.
Through equipping LGUs with necessary skills in crafting tailored investment proposals, MTIT-BOI hopes to unlock a gateway for investment and sustainable growth benefiting not just Sulu but the entire Bangsamoro region. (Alline Jamar M. Undikan/BIO)
