COTABATO CITY—The Bangsamoro Government, through its Peace, Security, and Reconciliation Office (PSRO), successfully settled an eight-month-long “rido” (family feud) between the Basco Sali and Theng Mamo families of Barangay Kulambog, Sultan sa Barongis, Maguindanao del Sur.
The dispute resolution ceremony took place at the PSRO office in Garumba Building, Rosary Heights IX, Cotabato City, on Aug. 28, 2024.
PSRO Director Anwar Alamada emphasized the importance of preventing such conflicts by ensuring both parties adhere to the agreed peace and security measures.
“It took us over eight months to reconcile, as the conflict resulted in the death of two individuals,” Alamada explained.
“Alhamdulillah, we are promoting a zero-money formula, with no blood money involved. Both parties have agreed to move forward without compensation for damaged properties or lives lost, resolving their dispute amicably through reconciliation led by ustadz (religious leaders),” he added.
Director Alamada also reported that 50 out of the 75 major conflicts registered with the PSRO across Bangsamoro areas—primarily in the two Maguindanao provinces and the Special Geographic Areas (SGA)—have been successfully settled.
In addition, the PSRO has mediated other disputes, including those involving the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) and political conflicts. (Majid Nur/BIO)
