COTABATO CITY—The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) expressed its appreciation for President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s statement posted Wednesday, Nov. 27, commemorating the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.
BARMM Spokesperson Mohd Asnin Pendatun hailed the President’s message as a reflection of the Philippines’ steadfast support for peace and human rights.
“We commend President Marcos Jr. for recognizing the plight of the Palestinian people and standing in solidarity with their pursuit of peace and justice. This aligns with the Bangsamoro people’s unwavering advocacy for the protection of human dignity and humanitarian principles,” Pendatun said.
The President’s statement underscored the Philippine government’s concern over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the need for peaceful resolutions to the conflict in the Middle East.
“We stand united with the Palestinian people – men, women, and children – in their collective aspiration for an enduring peace and prosperity,” the statement read.
“We urge all parties to refrain from escalating violence and to work towards a peaceful resolution of the conflict,” Marcos stressed.
Marcos reiterated the Philippines’ call for the rapid and unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid to affected civilians, emphasizing that diplomacy and dialogue remain essential in achieving lasting peace.
“The Bangsamoro Government echoes this call for compassion and action. We fully support the President’s emphasis on diplomacy as the cornerstone of peace,” Pendatun added.
To recall, a resolution was also passed by the Bangsamoro Parliament on Oct. 17, 2023, condemning the acts of violence against Palestinian civilians.
The Bangsamoro lawmakers called on world leaders to prioritize the just resolution of the conflict that gives, first and foremost, the right of statehood to the Palestinians.
BARMM, sharing a deep historical and cultural connection with the global Muslim community, continues to advocate for peace in Palestine and the broader Middle East.
