COTABATO CITY—Forging a path towards lasting peace and harmony in the Bangsamoro region, the Bangsamoro Government held the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) meeting in the province of Sulu for the first time on Saturday, June 10.
The meeting served as a platform for the different local chief executives and other participants to delve into the underlying factors contributing to crime and violence in the region.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim, the event brought together esteemed members of the Council, including the BARMM provincial governors such as Sulu Governor Abdusakur Tan, Basilan Governor Jim Hataman-Salliman, Tawi-Tawi Governor Ma-ang Sali, Maguindanao del Norte Governor Abdulraof Macacua, the BARMM ministries, national agencies, and the security sector.
Ebrahim, who chairs the RPOC, recognized the importance of sustained peace and order, saying, “Our vision for the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region is clear: a Bangsamoro that is united, enlightened, self-governing, peaceful, just, morally upright, and progressive.”
Emphasizing the importance of prioritizing the intellectual development of the younger generation, Chief Minister Ebrahim highlighted the need to enhance access to quality education and make strategic investments for economic development, thereby bolstering peace and order in the region.
Meanwhile, Governor Tan, who hosted the gathering, demonstrated his commitment to promoting peace and stability in the region.
He said that this event shall serve as the avenue for dialogue and consensus-building, aiming to address the intricate challenges that the government currently faces.
He also expressed his steadfast support for the BARMM Government, led by Chief Minister Ebrahim, in their tireless pursuit of long-lasting peace in the region.
“Our message to the Interim Chief Minister, the BTA, and all citizens of the BARMM: We are committed to support the peace process; we are committed to support your (Ebrahim) leadership and the BTA […] the success of the regional government is our success,” Tan stressed.
The successful convening of the RPOC meeting signifies the BARMM’s firm commitment to ensuring the safety, security, and well-being of its constituents. Through collaborative efforts and strong partnerships, the BARMM aims to foster lasting peace and development in the region. (Aisah Abas/BIO)
