COTABATO CITY—In line with the Bangsamoro Government’s commitment to reforestation and climate change mitigation, the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources, and Energy (MENRE), together with the Maguindanao Provincial Office and other stakeholders, executed a series of tree planting initiatives throughout July in Maguindanao del Norte.
Bangsamoro environmentalists, joined by the 6th Signal Battalion in collaboration with the Tantawan Eagles Club, orchestrated the event at Sitio Lomboy, Awang, Datu Odin Sinsuat.
Faisal Akmad, Community ENRE Officer 1st District, expressed gratitude to volunteers and stakeholders, emphasizing the vital role of tree planting in environmental protection.
“The Bangsamoro Government encourages raising awareness in the region of the importance of planting and saving trees, expressing concern for the environment, and reducing the adverse impacts of climate change,” Akmad stated.
Akmad also extended appreciation to the Armed Forces of the Philippines and partners, on behalf of MENRE Minister Akmad Brahim, Bangsamoro Director General Atty. Badr E. Salendab, and PENRE-Officer Maguindanao Lauban S. Abdul.
PENREO representatives provided technical assistance and demonstrated proper tree planting methods for the simultaneous activity organized by the Provincial Government of Maguindanao del Norte through the Office of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management.
Moreover, each municipality in the province of Maguindanao del Norte was allocated 500 seedlings, while PENREO-Maguindanao contributed 6,000 Mahogany and Narra seedlings.
MENRE’s tree planting endeavor aims to foster a more sustainable and verdant environment, enhancing awareness of the crucial role trees play in enriching the well-being of the BARMM community. (Johaira Sahidala/BIO with MENRE reports)
