COTABATO CITY—The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) logged the lowest inflation rate among all regions in the country at 6.0 percent for the month of November 2022, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) announced on Dec. 9.
BARMM was followed by Region XII or SOCCSKSARGEN area with second lowest inflation rate at 7.0% and Region IV-A CALABARZON as third lowest inflation rate at 7.1%. Meanwhile, Region XI or Davao Region got the highest inflation rate at 9.6 percent.
Accordingly, the headline inflation rate in the entire Philippines slightly rose to 8.0 percent in November compared to the 7.7 percent rate of the previous month.
“The lowering of inflation rate this month of November compared to the previous month of October in the Bangsamoro region was primarily due to the lower growths in the indices of food and non-alcoholic beverages at 7.6 percent compared to 8.4 percent in the previous month; housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels at 2.9 percent compared to 3.4 percent in the previous month; and transport commodities at 4.5 percent compared to 5.0 percent in the previous month,” stated Engr. Aran Tula, officer-in-charge regional director of PSA-BARMM.
In October, the Bangsamoro region, along with Region XII, also recorded the lowest inflation rate among all regions in the country at 6.5 percent.
For November, the province of Sulu recorded the lowest inflation rate at 3.6%, followed by Maguindanao at 4.4%, Tawi-Tawi at 5.5%, Basilan at 6.6%, and Lanao del Sur with the highest at 10.0%.
Cotabato City’s inflation rate also slightly increased to 4.2% compared to its 3.6% rate in October. (Kasan Usop, Jr./BIO)
