COTABATO CITY—To improve conflict resolution in the region, BARMM’s Ministry of Public Order and Safety (MPOS) conducted an in-depth ‘rido’ profiling in the Special Geographic Areas (SGA) from April 11-13.
In partnership with the Consortium of Bangsamoro Civil Society (CBCS), the activity aimed to gather comprehensive data on rido conflicts in the area and to identify key factors contributing to such conflicts.
The information collected will be used to enhance conflict resolution efforts and promote peace in the region.
A total of 60 representatives attended the said activity from various stakeholders such as barangay local government units (BLGUs) and the security sectors to enhance the ministry’s profiling and data-gathering process for the basis of resolving conflict comprehensively.
Rido conflicts have been a longstanding issue in the region and have contributed to the perpetuation of violence and insecurity in affected communities.
Philippine Army (PA) 34th 6ID Commanding Officer, Lt. Col Rey Rico highlighted the significance of comprehensive profiling and data gathering process, saying that the rido-profiling activity can help in identifying and mitigating the root cause of the feud.
“’Pag sinabi ang salitang rido, it goes beyond hatred o ‘di pagkaunawaan ng ating mga ninuno. Dapat hindi na natin ito ipamana sa mga susunod na henerasyon,” he stressed.
Meanwhile, former area coordinator of Pikit, Jimmy Adil, expressed that it is the right time and place for peacemakers and key leaders to discuss peace.
“Ito na yung tamang panahon, lugar at oras para mapag-usapan ng mga peacemakers at mga key leaders ang kapayapaan. Ang kapayapaan ay nandito na sa ating lahat. Negotiation is the key to any kind of conflict,” Adil said.
The comprehensive rido profiling initiative is under the Alternative Dispute Resolution Division of the MPOS, conducted in different venues such as the 34th Infantry Battalion Function Hall for Pikit and Midsayap, and Municipal Police stations of Carmen, Kabacan, Aleosan, and Pigcawayan.
This initiative is part of the Bangsamoro Government’s commitment to strengthen efforts in resolving ridos in the Bangsamoro region. Similar activities were also carried out in other Bangsamoro areas and provinces, namely in Maguindanao, Lanao del Sur, and the island provinces. (Majid Nur /BIO with reports from MPOS)
