COTABATO CITY—Bangsamoro Commission for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage (BCPCH) is hosting a vibrant exhibit of Bangsamoro culture and traditions at Intramuros fortress in Manila.
The exhibit, curated by the BCPCH’s Museum Section, headed by Glenn Francis C. Lanticse, features the diverse weaving products that highlight the Bangsamoro region’s rich cultural heritage at the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) open gallery from May 7 to 31, 2024.
Featuring a wide array of weaving products from the BARMM region, the exhibit includes Inaul from Maguindanao, Langkit from Lanao del Sur, Tennun from Yakan in Basilan, Saruk Kambigasan from Sulu, Tepo from Tawi-Tawi, and Monom representing the Indigenous Peoples (IPs). A variety of weaving materials and cultural items are also displayed.
BCPCH Chairperson Salem Lingasa underscored the importance of preserving the Bangsamoro cultural heritage for future generations.
“The exhibit is a rich tapestry of Bangsamoro cultures, reflecting the convergence of different traditions that contribute to the Bangsamoro Identity,” said Lingasa.
For his part, BCPCH Executive Director Akmad Mama emphasized that the “exhibit provided a platform for these cultural workers to resonate, highlighting their unique expressions of creativity and their role in preserving the rich cultural heritage of the BARMM Region.”
Meanwhile, NCCA Executive Director III, Dr. Eric Babar Zerrudo, stressed the significance of bringing Bangsamoro culture outside the region.
“Transcendent nature of Bangsamoro weaving while emphasizing its ability to traverse geographical boundaries and showcase the beauty of Bangsamoro cultures on a global scale,” he said.
Coinciding with the commemoration of National Heritage Month, the activity carries the theme ‘Weaving the Bangsamoro Identity: Weaving a Culture of Peace as One Bangsamoro Identity”, which aims to foster an understanding of peacebuilding through the art of weaving and promoting sustainable peace in the region.
