LAMITAN CITY—The Office of the Chief Minister’s (OCM) Kapayapaan sa Pamayanan (KAPYANAN) program turned over 159-unit decent homes worth P95 Million for widows and poorest of the poor families in three villages of Lamitan, Basilan on April 23, 2024.
The ceremonial event was led by Lamitan City Mayor Roderick Furigay and KAPYANAN Project Manager Engr. Mohammad Abdullah at Colonia with 104 units, Sengal with 15 units, and Ubit with 40 units, situated on the outskirts of the town.
Project Manager Engr. Abdullah expressed gratitude for the outstanding performance of the local government unit of Lamitan City.
“We extend our heartfelt thanks to our esteemed mayor, who is the first mayor across BARMM to have turned over such beautifully constructed houses. The entire KAPYANAN team is overjoyed,” he said.
“Acquiring decent housing is quite challenging nowadays, but KAPYANAN has allocated numerous houses in Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, and across the BARMM region. Our program, under the esteemed Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim, is dedicated to this cause. Many thanks to our Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim,” he added.
Ma. Luisa Tubo, 55, a widow with two children, expressed her profound gratitude to the BARMM government housing project.
“Because of you, our hearts and minds have been rejuvenated to dream again and participate in any endeavor that will uplift our society,” Tubo said.
“Thank you so much, BARMM, for giving us a shelter we can now call home, where we can wholeheartedly say: OUR HOME! Thank you, God, for hearing the cries of the poor families and for answering my prayer for a shelter of my own,” she added.
Meanwhile, Mayor Roderick Furigay welcomed everyone with hope and enthusiasm despite the hardships faced by the beneficiaries.
“In today’s times, it’s extremely difficult to find a decent and comfortable home due to life’s challenges. But this mindset has changed. Here in Lamitan, we can provide you with a free house. The hope of owning a home is within reach,” Mayor Furigay said.
“Today is a blessing as we celebrate another achievement for the city. I’m truly delighted to witness the turnover of these new housing units from KAPYANAN to Barangays Colonia, Sengal, and Ubit,” he stated.
The mayor emphasized that the houses are built on a solid foundation for the future homeowners, expressing gratitude to everyone who supported making this project possible.
“Thank you to our local partners, especially the tireless dedication of our BARMM officials and the City of Lamitan officials. Let us extend our thanks, muchas gracias, to Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim. This housing project is not just the beginning or the end; it’s a continuous project fueled by our love and support for our citizens,” Mayor Furigay said.
KAPYANAN project is intended for the poorest of the poor, internally displaced persons, war martyrs, indigenous people, and other members of marginalized communities. Each housing unit is worth approximately P600,000. (Majid Nur/BIO)
