COTABATO CITY—Regina Talib, an engineer from the Ministry of Public Works (MPW), is advancing to the national round of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Quiz Bee after winning the regional elimination on Wednesday.
Talib will represent the BARMM in the 3rd PSA Quiz Bee National Championship, scheduled to take place in Metro Manila on October 5 as part of the official opening ceremony for the 34th National Statistics Month.
“I am not expecting to win this competition but only God (Allah) knows the reason why I won,” Talib said, expressing his thanks to his supervisors and colleagues from their ministry.
The PSA-BARMM, in collaboration with the Bangsamoro Planning and Development Authority (BPDA), organized Wednesday’s activity.
A total of 19 distinguished members of the Regional Statistics Committee (RSCom) participated in the competition, representing various BARMM ministries, offices, and agencies.
The competition, as part of the activities conducted for the 10th PSA Anniversary, consisted of three rounds with varying levels of difficulty, and resulted in multiple ties after the first two rounds.
Consequently, the board of judges selected the top 8 contenders to proceed to the third and final round, including representatives from MPW, Rapid Emergency Action on Disaster Incidence (BARMM-READi), Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC-BTC), Ministry of Interior and Local Government (MILG), Ministry of Finance, Budget, and Management-Bangsamoro Treasury Office (MFBM-BTO), Ministry of Health (MOH), Bangsamoro Information Office (BIO), and Ministry of Labor and Employment (MOLE).
Fahmudin Salilagia, Engineer V from MOTC, and Nurosalam Caludtiag, Development and Management Officer III from MOLE, secured second and third places in the competition, respectively.
OIC Regional Director Engr. Akan Tula noted that the competition was a remarkable display of knowledge, passion, and sportsmanship.
“To the participants, you have shown your exemplary skill and determination in which each of you shall be mystically proud of your achievements as you have proven yourself among the best and brightest in the region,” Tula added.
Meanwhile, BPDA Deputy Director General Engr. Amil Abubakar said, “This Quiz Bee serves as a platform for the brightest minds in our region to showcase the knowledge, activity, and problem-solving skills in the name of statistics and the spirit of friendship competition.”
The Board of Judges for this competition included Dominador Gonzales, Jr., Director II, Civil Service Commission – BARMM, Dr. Evelyn Dollente, Executive Director, Notre Dame Educational Association, and Dr. Rodine Ligaray, Head, Social Science Research and Statistics, Cotabato State University.
