SPECIAL GEOGRAPHIC AREA— More than 500 indigent women in Midsayap Cluster 1 of BARMM’s Special Geographic Area (SGA) benefitted Monday, March 20, from the Kababaihan Ligtas Ngayon (KALINGA) program of the Bangsamoro Women Commission (BWC).
Pregnant women, solo parents, and senior citizens were among the beneficiaries who received rice packs and groceries, and non-food items like hijab and hygiene kits.
As part of this year’s National Women’s Month celebration with the theme “WE for Gender Equity and Inclusive Society”, BWC Chairperson Bainon Karon led the distribution with support from Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD) and Bangsamoro Rapid Emergency Action on Disaster Incidence (BARMM READi).
The Commission also held a conversation with the women to know their issues and concerns.
“Ang mensahe natin sa mga kababaihan ay mas paigtingin at palakasin pa nila ang kanilang mga organisasyon sa kani-kanilang lugar, nang sa gayun makapagbigay tayo sa kanila ng kanilang mga pangangailangan,” Karon said.
Karon, who was a former Member of the Parliament (MP), also conducted a medical outreach program through her 2022 budget as an MP. Medical consultations were conducted and medicine and hygiene kits were distributed. Free haircut services and bloodletting activity were also organized for some men. (Myrna Tepadan/BIO)
