SPECIAL GEOGRAPHIC AREA— After over a month of rigorous screening, Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim released today, July 9, the list of newly-appointed officer-in-charge (OIC) officials for the newly created eight municipalities in the Bangsamoro region’s Special Geographic Area (SGA).

On April 13, 2024, the Commission on Elections simultaneously conducted plebiscites to ratify the creation of the new SGA towns wherein a total of 72,658 out of 89,594 registered voters of SGA voted, with 76,358 voting YES and only 273 voting NO.
Chief Minister Ebrahim then signed on April 30, 2024, an executive order creating an Ad Hoc screening and review committee for applicants to municipal positions of the new eight SGA towns.
The committee was chaired by Interior and Local Government Minister Atty. Sha Elijah Dumama-Alba, Cabinet Secretary Mohd Asnin Pendatun, Chief of Staff Alvin-Yasheer Abdulgafar, Deputy Floor Leader Atty. Mary Ann Arnado, Member of the Parliament Baileng Mantawil, and Provincial Administrator of Maguindanao del Norte Tomanda Antok.
Pursuant to the executive order, the Ad Hoc committee considered, in determining of the qualifications of the applicants, their education preparation, experience, performance, accomplishments, reputation for honesty, integrity, incorruptibility, irreproachable conduct, and fidelity to moral governance and ethical standards. The committee then submitted to the Chief Minister a shortlist of nominees for every vacancy in the municipal positions in each of the eight new SGA towns.
Under the Bangsamoro Autonomy Acts creating the eight new SGA municipalities, the Chief Minister shall appoint its municipal officials with due regard to representation of women of the Bangsamoro.
