BARMM Chief Minister Ahod Balawag Ebrahim, Al-Haj
COTABATO CITY—Bangsamoro Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim reaffirmed today, February 2, his unwavering commitment to ensuring the continuous implementation of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB) amidst plans for the secession of Mindanao from the rest of the Philippines.
“As the Chief Minister of the Bangsamoro Government, I stand firmly on adhering to the faithful implementation of the provisions of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB) towards the right to self-determination,” CM Ebrahim emphasized.
Signed between the Government of the Philippines (GPH) and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) in March 2014, the CAB is the final peace agreement that halted decades of armed conflict between the Republic of the Philippines and the former combatants, resulting in long-lasting peace in the BARMM.
He continued that the accord recognizes the just and legitimate cause of the Bangsamoro people and their aspiration to chart a political future through a democratic process, thus preserving Bangsamoro’s identity and posterity and enabling meaningful self-governance.
This week, the news regarding the separation of Mindanao from the Government of the Philippines (GPH) sparked concerns and queries from the Bangsamoro constituents, leading to CM Ebrahim’s official statement release.
The Chief Minister stressed in his message that the key players in the Bangsamoro peace process have maintained their dedication to abide by their own words.
“Although more has yet to be done, the Parties to the CAB have made great strides in the implementation of its components that are ultimately beneficial to the Bangsamoro people,” he stated.
He also highlighted that the interim government acknowledges the significant contributions and efforts of the former and current presidents of the Philippines in arriving at the peaceful settlement of the ‘Bangsamoro Question.’
The Bangsamoro leader urged his constituents to help in protecting the gains of the peace processes, supporting the present administration, and allowing peace and civility to reign over the affairs of the Bangsamoro land.
Sustaining and improving peace, justice, and security across the BARMM is CM Ebrahim’s 11th priority agenda. (Johamin Inok/BIO)
