LAMITAN CITY—Ministry of Basic, Higher, and Technical Education – Technical Education and Skills Development (MBHTE-TESD) has launched a technical skills training program for the former Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) combatants and orphans in Sumisip, Basilan
Held on June 3 at Sitio Matiyas, Tumahubong Sumisip, the program aims to impart technical skills to participants, enabling them to become productive members of society.
With 200 participants, this activity, assisted by the IAM Institute of Technology Inc., a local driving school, is being conducted in four batches which began last April and will end in July this year.
Muhmin Edrosolo, Scholarship Focal for MBHTE-TESD Basilan, advised participants to be present for the entire 15-day training, noting that this is the first time the program is being conducted in the interior municipality.
“We are thankful to IAM Institute driving school for being conveniently located near your homes. Enrolling in HHH Technology requires you to pay for transportation to Lamitan City for the duration of your training,” Edrosolo said.
“My advice is not to be absent and attend school seriously. Knowledge and skills are lifetime assets that will be with you wherever you go,” he added.
Meanwhile, Engr. Ibnosali Malun, President of IAM Institute of Technology Inc., expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to impart knowledge and skills to MILF and MNLF members, as well as orphans in remote areas.
“I am happy because they are orphaned MILF members and rebel returnees. Through our school, they can gain knowledge and skills for employment. Driving skills are essential for rebel returnees to find jobs,” Malun said.
“It may now be easier to find a job, not just abroad but also locally, as there are many individuals with cars here and in the offices of the ministries and agencies of BARMM,” he added.
He also expressed his gratitude to the Bangsamoro Government for the opportunity to partner with his driving school in providing these services.
“Thank you very much to MBHTE Minister Mohagher Iqbal and BARMM Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim,” he said.
A total of 1,682 individuals were trained in technical skills in 2023, and the MBHTE aims to train 2,000 individuals by 2024.
This initiative is part of MBHTE Technical Education and Skills Development’s (TESD) special program for orphans under the Bangsamoro Scholarship for Technical Vocation Education and Training (BSTVET) for 2024. (Majid Nur/BIO)
