COTABATO CITY—Technical and vocational scholars from Lanao del Sur bagged most number of golds and hailed overall champion during the recent 2021 Regional Skills Competition led by the Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education – Technical Education and Skills Development (MBHTE-TESD).
On Nov. 8 until 12, tech-voc scholars from BARMM’s five provinces participated in the regional contest held at Brgy. Rebuken Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao.
Lanao del Sur won 3 of the 6 golds in the trade/skills area in carpentry, set-up computer networks, and bakery.
Maguindanao obtained 2 golds for cookery and welding, while 1 gold for Basilan for winning in electrical installation.
The winners brought home certificates of participation, medals, plaques, and cash prizes. The champion received of Php25,000.00; Php20,000.00 for 1st runner up; Php15,000.00 for 2nd runner-up; and Php7,500.00 for the consolation prize.
On the other hand, coaches also received a cash prize: Php5,000.00 for the champion; Php4,000.00 for the 1st runner up; Php3,000.00 for the 2nd runner up; and Php2,000.00 for the consolation prize.
“What the BARMM RSC hopes to achieve is to inspire our trainees and vocational graduates to continue reaching the highest level of competency in their chosen technical area,” MBHTE Minister Mohagher Iqbal said during the event.
“Undoubtedly, cash prizes and awards are an essential incentive for anyone to compete well. But I want to remind everyone that there is a much bigger competition other than the RSC. The real competition happens in the ‘real world’, where you shall apply your skills and technical knowledge to earn a livelihood,” Iqbal added.
He also extended his congratulations and gratitude to MBHTE TEST Director-General Ruby Andong and her team for organizing this significant event.
This December, BARMM RSC’s gold medalists will compete and represent BARMM at the Philippine National Skills Competition (PNSC) 2021. (Bangsamoro Information Office)
