COTABATO CITY—A new housing development is about to commence in Brgy. Daguan, Kapatagan, Lanao del Sur, following the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement between the BARMM Government, represented by the Ministry of Human Settlement and Development (MHSD), and the Local Government Unit of Kapatagan.
The Housing Development Project is comprised of 50 residential units, each priced at P764,400, an entrance archway inscribed with the resettlement housing site’s name, ‘Darussalam Village’, costing P793,800, and a solar-powered water system level III, amounting to 4,704,000.
Totaling P43,717,800, this is appropriated from the Special Development Fund (SDF) 2022.
MHSD Minister Atty. Hamid Aminoddin Barra highlighted the significance of upholding contractual commitments, citing it as both religious and administrative obligations, and stressed the need to expedite required processes to ensure timely completion of the project.
“In Islam, agreements must be written, and we have to comply with their requirements because we are bound by the contract. This is a responsibility and an accountability to the Bangsamoro and to the national government,” Minister Barra said.
“We believe that we have delivered, and we are delivering. This is the tagline of the MHSD: “MHSD delivers.” In Shaa Allah on our part, for as long as the local government complies with the necessary requirements, there will be no delay in the releases of funds from the MHSD,” he added.
Situated at the southern tip of Lanao del Sur, the Municipality of Kapatagan is one of the areas afflicted with chaos and devastation by the all-out war in 2000, resulting in thousands of displaced families. Ever since, the town has struggled to get back to its feet and rebuild what was ruined.
The housing project of the Bangsamoro Government, set to commence next month, now brings hope to the local government for more developments, meanwhile committing their full support to this tangible gain of the peace process.
“Makakaasa po kayo na kung ano ang nasa MOA ay yun din ang makikita niyo pag natapos ang project. Kami po ay pro-development. Aayusin natin ang Kapatagan at ang buhay ng mga taga Kapatagan,” Kapatagan Municipal Mayor Raida Bansil-Maglangit remarked.
[Rest assured that whatever is written in the MOA is what you will see once the project is completed. We are pro-development. We will fix Kapatagan and the people of Kapatagan.]
Dubbed the ‘housing arm of BARMM’, MHSD is set to provide homes for over a thousand underprivileged and needy families in the region within the year, aligned with the 12-Point Priority of Chief Minister Ahod B. Ebrahim. (Bai Omairah Yusop/BIO)
