COTABATO CITY—In line with the Halal Program of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Agrarian Reform (MAFAR), the Engineering Section led the groundbreaking ceremony of a Halal Meat Hub worth Php15-million at Brgy. Madia, Datu Saudi Ampatuan (DSA) and Brgy. Sambolawan, Datu Salibo in Maguindanao.
The projects worth P7.5-million will benefit the Youth and Women Producers Cooperative and Uton Farmers Agri-Business Marketing Cooperative in the two towns.
The facilities include the Halal Meat Processing and Training Center worth Php3.5-million, and the Integrated Halal Slaughterhouse worth Php4-million which can cater 50 heads of animals per day.
According to MAFAR Director-General for Agriculture Services Dr. Daud Lagasi, the project aims to provide meat processing center and slaughterhouse to farmers which can later be a source of their income.
“We want this project to be successful and be acknowledged as one of the sources of halal meat in the BARMM region,” Lagasi said.
Local officials from both LGUs expressed gratitude to the Bangsamoro Government through MAFAR for choosing their towns as beneficiaries of the said projects.
Datu Saudi Ampatuan Municipal Mayor Hon. Edris A. Sindatok, on behalf of the DSA-LGU, pledged to the project’s sustainability.
“We assure you that all the projects implemented in our town will be useful for our community,” Sindatok said.
The construction of the building will be managed and supervised by Carlson Construction and Supply. The projects are expected to be finished within 150 days [on or before March 3, 2023 as the target date]. (Kasan Usop, Jr./BIO)
