COTABATO CITY —The Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education – Technical Education and Skills Development (MBHTE-TESD) Maguindanao kicked-off its Provincial Skills Competition 2022 on Tuesday, June 21, in Sultan Kudarat Municipality.
MBHTE-TESD, in partnership with seventeen (17) Technical Vocational Institutes (TVIs), led the opening program of the competition which will run until June 24.
The four-day event aims to promote the development of quality technical education and work values among young people and qualified professionals, as well as to select individuals to represent the country in international competition, and encourage cooperation between governments and private institutions.
MBHTE-TESD Maguindanao Provincial Director Engr. Salehk Mangelen encouraged the youths and technical education graduates to participate and showcase their abilities.
“Layunin nito na hubugin ang ating mga kabataan o TESD graduates na makilahok at ipakita ang kani-kanilang mga talento at husay. Pagkakataon rin ito para sa ating mga TVI partners upang ipakita nila ang kanilang mga produkto,” Mangelen said.
“Itong aktibidad na ito ay magaganap din sa limang probinsya ng Bangsamoro region. Pagkatapos nitong provincial competition ay mag-o-organize tayo ng regional competition, kung saan ang manalo ay sasali sa Philippine national competition,” Mangelen added.
The participants are competing on six (6) skills areas such as Bread and Pastry Production, Cookery, Electrical Installation, Maintenance and Welding, Carpentry, and Information and Network Cabling.
“Maganda ang naitulong ng competition na ito upang maipakita at maipamalas ang aking kakayahan, makikita rin natin ang meron sa laboratory [cookery laboratory] at paano natin ito maisasagawa [food precessing],” said Izza Bayogos, one of the participants on cookery competition.
Participants to the competitions are selected TVIs namely Awang Technical Vocational Institutes, Inc., Datu Ibrahim Paglas Memorial College, Inc., Ebrahim Institutes of Technology, Inc., Farasan Institutes of Technology, Inc., Foureych Technical Vocational and Learning Center, Inc., Goldtown Technological Institute, Inc., Ibn Taimiyah Foundation Academy, Inc., Illana Bay Integrated Computer College Inc., Ittihadun Nisah foundation-Bangsamoro Women Skills Training Center, and Lamalan Balis Flash Image Learning Center Inc.
Also joining the event are participants from Maguindanao Institute of Technology and Learning Center, Inc., Mamasapano Technical Vocational Education and Training Center, Regional Manpower Development Center, Sultan Kudarat Islamic Academy Foundation College, VMC Asian College Foundation, Inc., Libungan-Torreta Educational and Technology Academy, Inc., and Upi Agricultural School.
The activity is being held under the TESDA Act of 1994, which states that TESDA, with the creative participants of private individuals, shall organize annual skills olympics to promote skills development in the country and with the view of participating in international skills completion.
