COTABATO CITY—In line with the celebration of Mindanao Week of Peace, the Ministry of Public Order and Safety (MP0S) named the Bangsamoro Peace Champions for 2021 in a ceremony on Tuesday, Nov 30, at Pagana Grand Hall, in this city.
MPOS Minister Hussein P. Muñoz said,”this award-giving process aims to recognize worthy initiatives for peace in the Bangsamoro region.”
Nishreen Y. Hashim, 26, a resident of Sultan Kudarat Municipality in Maguindao, bagged the grand champion award worth of Php100,000.00 cash and received plaque of appreciation.
Her project, entitled ‘CoMMunity’ or the Collaboration aMong Mindanaoans for Unity, aims to increase and strengthen the collaboration of the community and local leaders through communication and peace dialogue.
Further, it also aims to enhance community participation on planning and decision-making, particularly the Barangay Peace and Order Plan in the said barangay to create more concrete and community based-solutions programs for their community.
“Itong award na ito, gusto kong ibili ng solar light para sa community ng Bukirin, North Kabuntalan kung saan na-conduct itong project, at kung saan mataas ang poverty incidence nitong barangay,” Hashim stressed.
Helen Mae A. Betito, whose project was conducted in Teduray community of North Upi, got two awards: a finalist with Php50,000.00, and the People’s Choice award with Php20,000.00.
Betito’s Project ‘TRI-Ps’ or the People Peace Promotion is an innovative project that aims to capacitate more young generation to be a bearer of peace in school and in community.
Other finalists such as Alfatah P. Abdullah, Jaymoon A. Samelon, Sadat B. Minandang, and Maelar Jane Hechanova also received Php50,000.00 cash each.
“Let me also commend all applicants and the finalists for the efforts rendered to the Bangsamoro communities. For me, the truest advocates are those who resiliently work for peace, with or without the recognition […] Allah knows best the clarity of our intentions and the sincerity of our work,” Muñoz said.
