COTABATO CITY – The Ministry of Public Works (MPW), through its First District Engineering Office in Sulu, targets to complete Php48-million worth of road projects in the province by the end of this year.
Funded under MPW’s 2021 budget, the projects include the concreting of the 2-kilometers Hawani-Latih road in Patikul Municipality worth Php30-million, concreting of 500-meters Kasulutan road in Bus Bus, Jolo worth Php8-million, and the upgrading of 500-meters Jolo Port Terminal Road worth Php10-million.
Groundbreaking ceremonies were held last July 31 for the Hawani-Latih road, while August 6 for the two road projects in Jolo.
In an interview with MPW Minister Eduard U. Guerra on Friday, August 13, he praised the district engineering office for their active performance amid the challenges brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Basically ang karamihan ng projects natin ngayon ay roads,” Guerra said.
“Based on a JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) research, malayo ang agwat natin from national in terms of quantity ng roads paved. Within Mindanao is malayo rin tayo because of the past few years na magulo eh walang gusto at mahirap mag implement ng projects,” he added.
“Yung 1-kilometer road, kung walang delay ay kayang tapusin within 2 months in good quality. Pero in our program of works we give them 3 months to finish 1 km,” Guerra further explained.
For 2021, MPW has an approved budget of over Php2.2-billion for the concreting of roads in Sulu province. (Bangsamoro Information Office)
