LANAO DEL SUR — The Bangsamoro Government’s Ministry of Public Works-Lanao del Sur Second District Engineering Office (MPW-LDS 2nd DEO) is set to construct various infrastructure projects valued at over P700 million which will focus on road construction and rehabilitation, drainage systems, multipurpose building, and street light installations.
On September 13, 2024, MPW-LDS 2nd DEO officially awarded contracts to winning contractors for the said projects.
“These projects are funded by the regular infrastructure budgets of 2023 and 2024, as well as the Special Development Fund of 2021. In total, these projects are worth more than 700 million pesos,” said Engineer Abdul Khalic Ondi.
MPW-LDS 2nd DEO believes that the projects will address the district’s growing infrastructure needs as construction of roads and drainage systems will significantly improve residents’ access to essential services and prevent flooding during the rainy season, especially in areas prone to waterlogging. Additionally, the installation of street lights aims to improve safety in the communities, especially in rural areas where inadequate lighting has been a longstanding concern.
These are among MPW’s initiatives which align with the Bangsamoro Government of the Day’s 12-point priority agenda, which specifically aims to “develop a system of reliable and resilient infrastructure for land, sea, air transportation and communication that would result to better connectivity and economic growth”.
In his remarks, Assistant District Engineer Kamar Mauyag, Sr. reiterated MPW-LDS 2nd DEO’s commitment to monitor the construction of all its projects through regular inspections to ensure they meet the required standards of quality and are completed within their set timelines.
The contractors, in their response, assured the Bangsamoro Government of their full cooperation and commitment to timely project completion through their efficient manpower and resources. (Norjana Malawi/BIO).
