MAGUINDANAO DEL SUR— The completion of a new farm-to-market road (FMR) promises to significantly improve the transportation of goods and products to local markets for the residents and farmers from four barangays of Talayan Municipality in this province.
On August 7, Minister Mohammad Yacob, who heads the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform (MAFAR) and also serves as the Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP) Project Director of Regional Project Coordination Office BARMM, led the turnover ceremony for the newly constructed road.
“FMR is the key to agricultural development. Now after the turnover of this project, let’s focus on enhancing agricultural productivity through the provision of inputs, machinery, and other support to motivate you in your farming activities,” said Minister Yacob.
The World Bank-funded project, amounting to PHP 199.2 million, stretches 9.46 kilometers and includes two bridges that connect the barangays of Tamar, Marader, Lanting, and Fukol.
Brgy. Lanting Chairman Haron Kadatuan expressed his appreciation to MAFAR for the project. “Before, when the water was high, it would take 24 hours to cross the road to market. But now, with this road and bridges, we can easily transport our goods without suffering large expenses,” he said, noting the project’s transformative impact.
Various dignitaries, including MAFAR Bangsamoro Director for Agrarian Reform Taugan Kikay, Talayan Municipal Secretary Arnel Nul, and other local officials and residents were present during the ceremony. (Myrna Tepadan/BIO with reports from MAFAR-PRDP)
