COTABATO CITY—The newly inaugurated Maimbung District Hospital in Sulu is now ready to provide healthcare services to far-flung areas in the province.
The hospital was inaugurated on April 29, and Health Minister Dr. Rizaldy Piang led the inauguration ceremony.
Piang said that the Ministry of Health (MOH) is committed to improving hospitals in the Bangsamoro region and is providing full support to the province.
“This is the first time that MOH-BARMM can open a district hospital, so we are also glad that the time we spent to come here was productive,” he said, adding that there are seven hospitals upgraded and standardized in the entire region.
The hospital is funded under the Health Facilities Enhancement Program (HFEP) of the central office.
Meanwhile, Mayor Shihla Tan-Hayudini expressed her gratitude for the project’s realization, saying that it was driven by the core intent of fulfilling patient-focused and hospital-based approaches in Maimbung.
In addition, 95 newly hired personnel of the new hospital took an oath to provide quality healthcare services.
During the visit, MOH officials also launched the Measles-Rubella and Oral Polio Virus (MR-OPV SIA) campaign, and a 25-bed capacity Temporary Treatment Monitoring Facility (TTMF) worth Php10,000,000.00 funded under Bayanihan Act II was officially opened.
The Mayor said the Covid-19 pandemic has brought to light the weaknesses of the healthcare system nationwide and highlighted the importance of public health.
“For almost 2 years, we have locked ourselves away from the contagion with experimental strategies to protect the population, exposed before our eyes is resilience despite weaknesses in our healthcare system nationwide. It also brought to our consciousness the importance of public health and that it must stand as the utmost priority,” said Tan-Hayudini.
MOH Assistant Secretary Dr. Abdulhalik Kasim, Director II for Technical Services Dr. Ahmad-Fawadz Israel, Director II for Operations Dr. Tato Usman, Chief of Planning Division Anisa Matuan, and Provincial Health Officer II for Sulu Province Dr. Farrah Tan-Omar were also present during the activity.
