MARAWI CITY — Office of the Chief Minister’s Marawi Rehabilitation Program (OCM-MRP) held on July 21 a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of 50-unit housing projects each in the municipalities of Saguiaran and Kapai in Lanao del Sur.
In his message, Member of the Parliament and incumbent MRP Program Manager Said Sheik called for a swift and efficient construction process as the internally displaced persons (IDPs) await relocation to their permanent shelters in the said areas.
“This will ensure the housing for internally displaced persons is completed promptly and effectively, allowing them to benefit from its provision,” Sheik emphasized.
“Furthermore, we hope this project fosters a sense of camaraderie and collaboration between the different municipalities involved, creating a united front in supporting the IDPs’ needs,” he added.
On the other hand, Saguiaran Mayor Jalalodin Angin and Kapai Mayor Khadijah Gauraki expressed their commitment in supporting and overseeing the construction of the new permanent shelters in their respective municipalities.
The event was attended by key figures from the Program Steering Committee (PSC) including PSC Vice Chairperson, Minister Hamid Aminoddin Barra of the Ministry of Human Settlement and Development (MHSD), and PSC Spokesperson, MP Marjanie Macasalong.
MRP and MHSD held the same ceremony on January 14, 2024 at Barangay Malimono in Marawi City to commence the construction of 200 permanent shelters that they aim to complete within 405 calendar days.
During this ceremony, MHSD Minister Barra emphasized that as the housing arm of the region and MRP’s implementing partner, “we are not only accountable to the Bangsamoro people and government and the mujahideens, but also to the national government and the Filipinos with their taxes, and ultimately to Allah SWT”.
