MAGUINDANAO DEL NORTE – The Bangsamoro Government’s Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD) has provided food and non-food assistance to approximately 11,179 families affected by flooding.
The aid distribution occurred from July 9 to 16, 2024, both within and outside the Bangsamoro territory. Each family received 25 kilograms of rice, along with canned goods, sleeping kits, cooking kits, dignity and protection kits, safe drinking water, and infant kits to meet their basic needs.
Additionally, the MSSD’s Disaster Response and Management Division (DRMD) deployed five water tanks equipped with 1,300 meters of hose for clean water, installed 12 latrine facilities, and set up 50 tents in Matanog, Maguindanao del Norte.
“MSSD will provide food packs, tents, wash facilities, and essential kits (sleeping, hygiene, dignity, and infant) through the Disaster Response Management Division to address the victims’ immediate needs,” MSSD Minister Atty. Raissa Jajurie said.
In Lanao del Sur, aid was provided to 1,255 families in Balabagan, 172 in Marogong, 1,367 in Malabang, and 162 in Matanog, among others. In Maguindanao del Norte, assistance reached 283 families in Pagalungan, 575 in Datu Montawal, and 1,910 in Ampatuan. In Maguindanao del Sur, 1,558 families in Datu Piang received help, alongside 377 from Malidegao and 2,561 from Tugunan in BARMM’s Special Geographic Area, as well as 959 families from Sultan Kudarat and Lake Sebu in South Cotabato.
“The main purpose of this relief operation is to alleviate the difficult situation of residents in BCOBAR who have experienced the impact of the recent El Niño phenomenon and recurring rainfall due to the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ),” said Sheehery-Saad Salendab, Social Welfare Assistant of MSSD DRMD.
