JOLO, Sulu—To improve the quality of life of the Tausug people in this province, the Ministry of Human Settlement and Development (MHSD) simultaneously handed over P58.7 million worth of project comprised of three (3) training centers and 50 housing units to its beneficiaries on Nov. 5, 2024.
Funded by Member of Parliament (MP) Adzfar Usman’s Transitional Development Impact Fund (TDIF) 2021, a two-story Human Development Training Center worth P14,264,054.00 was turned over to the LGU of Barangay Kajatian, Indanan, of this province. Additionally, a one-story Human Development Training Center worth P7,326,812.00 was turned over to the LGU of Barangay Pasil, Indanan.
MHSD-BARMM Director General Esmael Ebrahim emphasized that newly turned over structures are a sacred trust or ‘amanah’ to the Filipino people, funded by their taxes, and vows accountability to the Commission on Audit and the Chief Minister, ensuring continued support for Bangsamoro’s development.
“We’re not just accountable to those proponents but also to the people of the Philippines because the ‘block grant’ that is given to BARMM is from the taxes of every Filipino [and] also to COA-BARMM [and we are] responsible also to the CM,” said Director General Ebrahim.
MHSD-BARMM Technical & Regulatory Director II Suharto Wahab also stressed that the center is a trust; thus, he hopes for the continuing support of the Municipal Local Government of Indanan in nurturing the young minds through the training center.
“This isn’t just a building; it’s a trust. We hope the local government of Indanan will keep supporting MP’s mission to educate and nurture our young people through this training center,” Wahab said.
Furthermore, another one-story Multi-Purpose Human Development Training Center worth P8,480,547.56 under TDIF 2022 of MP Atty. Jose Lorena was also turned over to the Mindanao State University – Sulu led by Chancellor Dr. Nagder Abdurahman.
MSU-Sulu OIC Chancellor Professor Rohina Adju, who represented Chancellor Abdurahman, thanked the BARMM and MP Atty. Lorena for the unwavering support to the institution. She also emphasized that this was the second project of BTA Deputy Floor Leader MP Lorena in Sulu.
Moreover, 50 housing units worth P32,230,000.00 were turned over to its beneficiaries at Tubig Dakulah, Indanan, as part of MHSD’s resettlement project.
Forty-two-year-old beneficiary Shelby Elias extended her heartfelt thanks to the Bangsamoro Government for its dedication and generosity. She highlighted that the “Pabahay” project of the BARMM is not merely a house but serves as hope and stability for a better future.
According to MHSD, a total of 250 housing units have already been turned over to beneficiaries, and 250 units are still being constructed.
These projects demonstrate the MHSD’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life in Sulu aligning with the BARMM’s goals of promoting economic development. By providing training facilities and housing, the MHSD is poised to make a lasting impact on the region’s development. (Alline Jamar M. Undikan/BIO)
