MARAWI CITY — The Bangsamoro Government, through the Bangsamoro Sports Commission’s Lanao del Sur Provincial Office, organized a sports clinic event in this city from July 2 to 4, 2024, to provide intensive training for young Bangsamoro athletes in Marawi City.
The commission invited professional coaches in basketball, volleyball, and tennis to teach and train the student-athletes in the fundamentals of their respective sports.
“The main goal of the Bangsamoro Sports Commission’s (BSC) Sports Clinic is to discover the talents of the young athletes. This way, the commission can help them hone their skills in their chosen sports,” said BSC Chairperson Dr. Arsalan Diamaoden.
According to BSC, the training sessions included skill drills, game strategies, and conditioning exercises to enhance the athletes’ performance. The coaches also provided guidance on teamwork, sportsmanship, and mental preparation to ensure a comprehensive development program for the young athletes.
Chairperson Diamaoden also shared that the commission has developed a new policy to further encourage young athletes to join national and international competitions.
“Among the most important policies currently being implemented by the Bangsamoro Sports Commission is providing cash assistance and incentives to Bangsamoro athletes who will represent the region in national and international competitions,” he added.
The BSC also provided the student-athletes with new sports equipment that they can use in their subsequent training in preparation for the Palarong Pambansa 2024 to be held in Cebu City from July 11–15.
Chairperson Diamaoden hopes to also implement this in the marginalized communities of Lanao del Sur in the future to further reach more deserving Bangsamoro athletes.
“Maraming salamat po sa Bangsamoro Sports Commission. Sana po ay ipagpatuloy pa nila ang sports clinic na ito upang mas ma-influence ang mga kabataan na maglaro ng sports,” said student-athlete Moh’d Sodaiz Camid.
[Thank you very much to the Bangsamoro Sports Commission. I hope they continue this sports clinic to further influence the youth to engage in sports.]
The BSC, in partnership with the Ministry of Basic, Higher, and Technical Education, conducted a similar activity in the select communities of Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi earlier this year. (Norjana Malawi/BIO)
