COTABATO CITY—As part of its commitment of bringing science and technology closer to the people, Bangsamoro Government’s Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) participated in the National Academy of Science and Technology Philippines’ (NAST PHL) Mindanao Regional Scientific Meeting (RSM) on April 27-28 via Zoom.
The two-day meeting, in collaboration with MindaDOST Cluster, was part of the preparation for the conduct of NAST PHL’s 43rd Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) this coming July 13-15, 2021.
This year’s event carries the theme: “Covid-19 Pandemic: Learning from the Past, Coping with the Present, Moving to the Next.”
MOST Minister Aida Silongan said the meetings were done to provide an arena for top class scientists, professionals, engineers, and the young generation of science enthusiasts in the country, including the Bangsamoro region.
“This is to freely exchange ideas and visions to promote the development and utilization of science and technology for poverty reduction and sustainable development in the country and hopefully here in BARMM,” Silongan said.
Among the topics discussed during the 2-day virtual meeting included the impacts of Covid-19 in Mindanao, biology of viruses, vaccine hesitancy, learning challenges, preparing for future pandemics and more.
Part of the event was a scientific poster session entries that were evaluated and selected by the DOST regional directors from regions 9,10,11,12, Caraga, and BARMM to be part of the final lists. Also, the discussions and resolutions that were generated from the Mindanao RSM will also be presented during the 43rd ASM on July 13-15, 2021.
Local Government Units (LGUs), Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), State Universities and Colleges (SUCs), and other stakeholders were also present in the said meeting.
The DOST’s National Academy of Science and Technology Philippines (NAST PHL) is mandated to serve as adviser to the President of the Republic of the Philippines and the Cabinet on matters concerning science and technology in the country. (Bangsamoro Information Office)
