COTABATO CITY— Previously isolated areas in the region are now becoming more accessible to the public thanks to Bangsamoro Government’s road projects.
On Sept. 27, the Ministry of Public Works (MPW) declared the completion of a one-kilometer barangay road project with solar streetlights at Barangay Balong in Pikit Cluster of the BARMM’s Special Geographic Area (SGA).
According to MPW, Brgy. Balong was a flooded area that could only be reached on foot or by navigating the waterways using small boats. This presented difficulties for the residents in accessing vital services, transporting goods, and establishing connections with neighboring communities.
Now with the road’s completion, there will be a significant reduction in travel time to essential facilities such as medical centers, educational institutions, and markets.
Meanwhile on Sept. 18, MPW also completed the 3.2-kilometer farm-to-market road that provides access to the once-isolated and conflict-prone Sitio Kiamco at Barangay Maitumaig in Datu Unsay, Maguindanao del Sur.
“This road, stretching through challenging mountainous terrain, is not just a symbol of progress but also a testament to the transformative power of peacebuilding efforts in a region marked by years of conflict between the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and the Philippine military,” according to MPW.
The road project will not only ease the travel for residents but will simplify the farmers’ movements of goods and services, thereby enhancing their income and raising their living standards.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim, MPW continuous to improve connectivity and access to opportunities among different communities within the Bangsamoro region.
With each road project completed, BARMM is a step closer to achieving its vision of an inclusive and progressive region. (Myrna Tepadan/BIO)
