COTABATO CITY – The Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) Parliament on March 25 adopted a resolution urging the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) to create a regional office within the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
This is to provide Bangsamoro registered professionals convenient transactions with the Commission, through reduction of effort, cost, and travel time to other areas outside the region, given that BARMM does not have a PRC regional office despite being a home to a large number of registered professionals.
Proposed Resolution No. 426 was a product of consolidated committee reports from the BTA’s Committees on Rules (COR) and Labor and Employment (COLE) regarding the initially two proposed resolutions No. 339 and 415, authored by Parliament Members Haron Abas and Safrullah Dipatuan, which both seek the establishment of a PRC office in the region.
The resolution is anchored on Republic Act No. 8981 known as the “PRC Modernization Act of 2000” which provides that the PRC is authorized to create regional offices as may be necessary to carry out their functions as mandated by law.
As to where the office should be located in the region, proponent of the resolution Majority Floor Leader and COR Chair Lanang Ali Jr. said it will be subject to the negotiation between the BARMM’s Ministry of Labor and Employment (MOLE) and the National Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), through the Intergovernmental Relations Body (IGRB).
Ali added that MOLE Minister and BTA Member Romeo Sema is currently in talks with the DOLE and its attached agency, the PRC.
The resolution stated that the establishment of a PRC regional office within BARMM will help in the enhancement and maintenance of professional and occupational standard and ethics of the Bangsamoro professionals. (Bangsamoro Information Office)
