MARAWI CITY – Some 148 midwives and seven (7) physicians took their oath Friday, May 21, as the new workforce who will strengthen the healthcare services in Marawi City and Lanao del Sur province.
The midwives were hired under the Midwife in Every Community in BARMM (MECBA) project, while the physicians were employed thru the Doctors to the Barrios (DTTB) program.
Newly installed Health Minister Dr. Bashary Latiph administered their oath taking ceremony which was witnessed by Deputy Chief Minister Ali Solaiman, along with his fellow Ranaw Region Members of Parliament Marjanie Macasalong and Zainodin Mohammad Bato.
Provincial Health Officer Dr. Alinader Minalang, and City Health Officer Dr. Ali Dalidig also graced the event.
“I’m very confident and have the highest faith that you will deliver your responsibilities as midwives and doctors with minimal supervision,” Minister Latiph said in his native language.
“Napakahirap ng pinagdadaanan nating mga doctors, nurses, midwives, and other alike medical professions. Kayo ang isa mga sa inaasahan namin to address the health problems at this time of pandemic,” he added.
25 midwives will be deployed to Marawi City Health Office while the remaining 123 will be assigned to the different Rural Health Units of Lanao del Sur.
The physicians, on the other hand, will be distributed to the doctorless municipalities in the province.
Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim congratulated the newly appointed healthcare workers and thanked the MOH for facilitating yet another significant chapter in BARMM’s collective dream of having a healthier Bangsamoro.
“As midwives, you will become the living ambassadors of our sealed vision for health care in the region,” said Ebrahim.
Bangsamoro Government aims to deploy a total of 600 community midwives throughout the region. The MOH had already deployed 170 midwives to its regional office and to the RHUs of Maguindanao province. (Bangsamoro Information Office)
