COTABATO CITY—Bangsamoro Government’s Kapayapaan sa Pamayanan (KAPYANAN) is set to build another 300-unit and 250-unit core shelters in Pigkawayan, Special Geographic Areas (SGA), and in the towns of Barira, Buldon, Matanog, and Parang in Maguindanao, respectively.
A ceremonial groundbreaking was held at Barangay Gadungan, Parang on Wednesday, March 2, 2022.
KAPYANAN Deputy Project-Manager Engr. Abdulnasser K. Usman said, “this is special project of the Office of Chief Minister aimed to help the poorest of the poor, elderly, and widowed Bangsamoro.”
“This would be the last groundbreaking ceremony for 2021 in Maguindanao,” Usman added.
The total cost is Php370-million under the General Approriation Act of Bangsamoro (GAAB 2021).
Meanwhile, Odin I. Nephay, 32, a proponent, said, “mga magsasaka po kaming walang bahay. Sobra po ang saya at malaking pasasalamat namin sa KAPYANAN at sa Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim sa pamimigay ng libreng bahay.”

On March 1, another groundbreaking ceremony was held at Barangay Pangangkalan Pigkawayan, SGA for the 300-unit core shelters worth more than Php202-million.
Asmah G. Ebrahim, a beneficiary, was emotional when she said, “ang hanapbuhay namin ay pangingisda at pagsasaka. Mahirap talaga ang kabuhayan dito at hindi namin na maisip mag patayo ng bahay dahil hindi sapat ang pera namin. [Kaya’t] malaking pasasalamat namin sa BARMM at kay Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim na mabigyan kami ng libreng pabahay.
[Fishing and farming is our source of income. It is really hard to live here. Building a house is not in our plan because we don’t have enough money [that is why] we are grateful to BARMM and Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim for providing us free housing.]
Accordingly, more groundbreaking ceremonies will be conducted in SGA this month. (Majid Nur/BIO)
