Cotabato City (October 7, 2019) – The Philippine Statistics Authority of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (PSA-BARMM) will further enhance its mechanism for collecting data by using advanced technologies such as the unmanned aerial vehicle, popularly known as drones, and Global Positioning System (GPS) devices.
This was announced by PSA-BARMM Officer-in-Charge Regional Director Razulden A. Mangelen during the region’s kickoff celebration of the 30th National Statistics Month (NSM) on Monday, October 7, at the Bangsamoro Government Center.
“In the near future, we will also venture into other statistical innovations such as business intelligence, analytics, visualization, machine learning, and internet of things for the overall improvement of data in the system,” Mangelen said.
“Through effective innovations, the Bangsamoro people will be assured of the achievement of its long-term vision of a simple and comfortable life for all BARMM constituents,” he added.
Bangsamoro Planning and Development Authority (BPDA) Acting Executive Director Engr. Mohajarin T. Ali highlighted the importance of the said innovations in the statistical system that will help in developing “effective policies and decision making for the Bangsamoro.”
“Developing innovative procedures in generating quality statistics are being pursued,” he said. “Quality statistics attribute for better policies and programs as this will impact all the achievement of the overall development of BARMM of uplifting the lives of our people in the Bangsamoro.”
Meanwhile, Bangsamoro Chief Minister Ahod Al Haj Murad Ebrahim stressed that statistics play a vital role in the planning of the programs and projects for the Bangsamoro.
In his speech delivered by Acting Executive Secretary Abdullah Cusain, he said “we should cooperate extensively to get the support of the general public in upgrading the quality and standards of statistics in the country. In our part, at least, the PSA can rely on the support of the Bangsamoro Government to achieve such possibilities.”
Monday’s NSM celebration, spearheaded by the BARMM’s PSA and Regional Statistical Services Office (RSSO), was participated in by the employees of the BARMM’s different ministries and offices in the region.
The NSM celebration is conducted in October every year pursuant to Proclamation No. 647, s.1990, signed by then President Corazon C. Aquino. This year’s celebration is anchored to the theme “Data Innovation: Key to a Better Nation” (Bureau of Public Information)
