COTABATO CITY—Health officials of the Bangsamoro Government and Lanao del Sur Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) launched Tuesday, Nov. 3, the campaign to prevent outbreak of measles and rubella in the province.
The region’s four other provinces of Maguindanao, Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi have started the measles-rubella supplemental immunization activities on Oct. 26.
OIC Health Minister Ameril Usman said implementation of the campaign in Lanao del Sur, including Marawi City, had to be postponed due to the rising number of Corona Virus 2019 (Covid-19) cases in the province.
A total of 115,632 infants and children age 9 to 59 months old in the province will be vaccinated, and 27,660 in Marawi City.
Usman said 506,448 children are set to receive the free and safe vaccination across the region.
“We will not let Bangsamoro children be left unvaccinated,” Usman said.
Minister Usman, Lanao Provincial Health Officer Allen Minalang, and Tugaya Mayor Alfatah Pacalna led the launching ceremony at the town’s Rural Health Unit.
On Oct. 28, Usman conducted ocular visits in the barangays of Pagalungan, Maguindanao for the implementation of the additional measles-rubella vaccination. He also led the distribution of hygiene kits to several parents and guardians. (Bureau of Public Information)
