Cotabato City (March 25, 2019) – The Class XXVI of the Rotary Peace Center of Cholalongkorn University in Thailand, in partnership with the Nonviolent Peaceforce, visited the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) on Monday, March 25.
The visit features a comprehensive lecture from OPAPRU (Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity) Assistant Secretary Dickson P. Hermoso, accompanied by the BARMM Assistant Executive Secretary Abdullah M. Cusain, on the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro, specifics in the Bangsamoro Organic Law, the normalization process, and the transition to BARMM.
The Rotary Peace Fellows of class 26 is composed of 22 fellows from different fields and parts of the world; Nigeria, Australia, Canada, USA, Pakistan, Germany, United Kingdom, Zimbabwe, Finland, Colombia, Moldova, El Salvador, Spain, Peru, Thailand, and Liberia, together with 7 university staff from Cholalongkorn University in Thailand.
Each year, the Rotary Foundation awards up to 50 fellows for certificate program, a 3-month study in a prestigious university, which includes 2 months of university study and 3 weeks of field study and peers learning opportunities with a diverse group.
Part of their 3 weeks field study is their visit in the Bangsamoro Region and Davao City from 23 to 31 March 2019 to conduct a study on the Mindanao Peace Process and Post Conflict Reconstruction and Peacebuilding.
The group was also scheduled to visit the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mosque in Cotabato City on the same day.
